Physician burnout is highly prevalent in the US. A 2006 survey by the American College of Physician Executives demonstrated a 77% fatigue rate, a 67% burnout rate, 33% depression and 10% had considered leaving practice (ACPE.org, December 2006). Physician burnout and job dissatisfaction exacerbates physician and staff turnover and subsequently increases patients of dissatisfaction. In addition, a direct link between physician burnout and job dissatisfaction has been made to decrease patient satisfaction with their health care and a decrease in compliance with physician recommendations. In surveys of patients, those patients of satisfied physicians have greater levels of trust and confidence in their physicians and were more likely to follow recommended therapies. (Grembowski D et al., J Gen Intern Med. 2005;20:271-277).

This program is designed to provide tools to evaluate and understand the connections between job-related stress and physician performance, physician relationships with patients and colleagues, and patient compliance and satisfaction with their care. The prevalence and impact of physician burnout, and the unique stresses that physicians, health care workers and medical families live with will be examined through a review of the current literature. Discussions and experiential exercises will provide participants an opportunity to identify their own job stresses and more clearly understand how they respond and cope with job stress in ways that are both adaptive and maladaptive. Participants will examine the impact their respone to job stress has on colleagues and patients and ultimately on their own well- being. They will review and practice practical methods for managing job related stress and changing the balance of their lives and the lives of their patients.

Pronto Seminars

PRONTO SEMINARS organizes and hosts continuing education (CE and CME) workshops and retreats in Italy. Distinguished faculty, participants and their families come from all over the world to enjoy high quality experiential content at a relaxed pace. We provide an affordable way to combine work, travel and relaxation.

Our classes are small and designed so that your afternoons and evenings are free to wander through the countryside, have a wonderful meal, or visit a museum. Our participants tell us that learning in this environment, at a relaxed pace, allows for a full integration of new material and practices.

We are known for creating an intimate setting where presenters are available in a less formal way and where colleagues from around the globe become friends and get to know each other while enjoying the delights of Italy. This model provides a contrast to large conferences, and our participants have encouraged us to continue in this direction.

In September 2012 we are looking forward to enjoying Tuscany and Umbria! Our venues are nestled in the hills, "off the beaten path", yet only 15 minutes by car from historic centers.

English is the main language of our workshops. Space is limited.
